There is a subtle difference between “Transforming” data, and “Analysing” data, and “Managing” data. Transforming data typically consists of making modifications to existing data sets or creating somewhat similar deviates of a data set, such as a subset of a data set. “Managing data” is making changes to the representation of the data, i.e. exporting to a different data format or changing the Coordinate Reference System (covered in the section on Accessing and Managing Geospatial data) When performing analysis
Creating an overview of the different types of analysis that can be performed on geospatial data is rather complex. One rather fun approach is The Periodic Table for Spatial Analysis
This is a large topic, but we can start by distinguishing between som basic types of operations namely;
- Basic operations on attribute data
